Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS)

This page explains the services that SCIS extends to non-member schools.

CPD for non-member and local authority schools

SCIS welcomes and promotes the sharing of training and networking opportunities between independent and local authority schools for the benefit of Scotland's young people. The Continuing Professional Development programme for teaching and non-teaching staff, organised and faciliated by SCIS, is open to all schools that wish to participate and non-member schools are encouraged to do so. Delegates can develop their knowledge, improve their skills and competences, and enhance their career prospects. Over 100 workshops run throughout the school year and topics cover a broad range of educational management, teaching, care and welfare, and administrative areas. To ensure the CPD programme is widely accessible, courses, workshops and conferences are charged at not-for-profit prices.

A printed version of the CPD programme, available to all schools, is published in July each year. Forthcoming courses and an archive of all those that have taken place in the current school year can be seen on the CPD page of this website. Registering online is quick and simple and confirmation will be sent via email with venue details and a location map. The estimated price of each course, depending on numbers, is included in each course descriptor online. Discounts of 40% apply where 3 or more delegates from the same school attend the same course. Schools are invoiced at the end of each term. For further information about any aspect of the CPD programme offered by SCIS, please call David Clark on 0131 220 2106.

Information and advice to non-member schools

For those schools that do not require the full membership services of SCIS but need to be kept informed about educational and regulatory issues, SCIS can provide an alternative level of service. Schools might, for example, wish to receive regular mailings from SCIS which include information, advice, facts and statistics. To discuss your needs, please call Sarah Randell on 0131 220 2106.
