Health & Wellbeing Conference

Following on from the success of last year's Health and Wellbeing conference, this year's programme will focus on promoting resilience and emotional wellbeing. The day will be led by
Roger Catchpole of Young Minds.
The course objectives will be:
- To raise awareness of children's mental health and emotional wellbeing
- To consider the role of school (junior and senior) in promoting emotional wellbeing
- To suggest practical strategies to support schools in building resilience
Outline of key sessions:
1. Children's mental health and emotional wellbeing - a framework
- A continuum that includes us all; thoughts, feelings, behaviour and learning; nature, nurture and events; the role of school
2. Identifying risk and intervening early
3. Attachment, neuroscience and the implications for learning
- Secure and insecure attachment; brain development; stress and trauma
4. Resilience
- What it is (and is not); domains of resilience; finding resilience in me; activities to promote resilience in school
5. Putting it all together
- The whole child in school - case study exercise
Practical strategies for schools to implement will be woven in throughout the day.
