There is an ever-growing concern in society about the importance of providing children and young people with the knowledge and skills to keep themselves safe in a variety of situations.

The ‘Keeping Myself Safe' programmes offer a progressive personal safety education from P6 through to the end of secondary schooling. The resource is intended to provide high quality learning material that will allow children and young people to explore relevant issues round personal safety. The presenter is Dr. Susan Hamilton.

The programmes are computer-based backed by teaching resources. Through discussion of animated scenarios, pupils will have the opportunity to reflect on key personal safety messages and strategies for keeping themselves safe.

It is recommended that members of staff delivering the programmes be appropriately trained.

Aims:
- To ensure an awareness of the child protection issues underpinning the programmes
- To develop confidence and competence in dealing with a disclosure, including procedures and recording
- To foster an understanding of the interface between sex education and personal safety programmes
- To familiarise participants with the programme
- To equip participants with sufficient information to ensure effective partnership work with parents

Cost per delegate: £ 90
