Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS)

Facilities and learning resources at independent schools match the expectations of today's pupils and parents.

Being independent gives each school the flexibility to budget for and to provide the most appropriate resources to enhance the learning experience of its pupils. From smart boards to purpose-built gymnasia, independent schools are accomodating the needs of current and future pupils.

Recent development projects at Scotland's independent schools

In recent years, many of Scotland's independent schools have invested in sports centres, performing arts venues, new junior school accommodation and boarding houses. In addition to benefiting pupils, the facilities are often made available to local community groups at evenings, weekends and holiday periods.

Many parents think that the cost of improved facilities is met from their school fees but that's not accurate. Only a tiny surplus is generated from fee income which schools reinvest into the fabric of their buildings. Today, many independent schools also have fundraising programmes in place in order to help finance new development projects.
