Quality Education
Independent schools offer an all-round, quality education
Independent, fee-paying schools share many ideals, offering a quality education where the focus is on the development and care of each individual pupil. A strong tradition of "all round" education equips pupils for the world beyond school.
Reputation for excellence
Independent schools enjoy a reputation for excellence, providing a broad, modern curriculum; consistently good exam results; a sound set of values; and a wealth of co-curricular activities.
Freedom to innovate
Independence gives each school the freedom to provide the best education possible for the benefit of its pupils. Consequently, many schools have developed individual strengths which complement the excellence that is the hallmark of the sector. Each school appoints its own staff; develops its own policies; and enjoys the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances. While independent schools are not under the management of an education authority, all SCIS member schools are registered with the Scottish Government Schools Directorate; are subject to inspection by Her Majesty's Inspectors and the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care; and most are affiliated to one or more professional associations.
