Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS)

Around 3,000 support staff (i.e. non-teaching staff) are currently employed in Scotland's independent schools, usually in the areas listed below. Support staff contribute enormously to the life of each school and are usually contracted to work throughout the calendar year, unlike most teaching staff who work in term time only. Holiday entitlements vary. Job vacancies are usually advertised in local press and references are taken up prior to interview. Salaries are usually in line with equivalent posts in the relevant business discipline or local authority schools. Many independent schools in Scotland participate in the Independent Schools' Pension Scheme, administered by the Pensions Trust, or other contributory schemes for support staff.
