Day two will provide further opportunities for probationers in SCIS schools to meet and network with each other.
The day will be comprised of two workshops:
Jen Kemp, Live-N- Learn https://live-n-learn.co.uk/ will deliver a session focusing on demystifying growth mindset and introduce the building blocks of resilience:
Changing Mindsets & Building Resilience
Delivered as a fun, relaxed and engaging workshop, Live-N-Learn will look at how ‘Mindsets’ unfold in the classroom and what we as teachers and leaders can do to influence young people’s attitude towards their abilities and capacity for growth. Sharing the experience of Carol Dweck’s research on ‘Mindsets', we will look at some key strategies to changing attitudes, establishing a growth mindset and creating the climate to learn. Delegates will be given the opportunity to reflect upon their own mindset, the language they use and how their attitude towards natural talent can impact on young people’s achievement. This workshop will reflect on some of the myths and misconceptions we commonly see in schools, such as judging and labelling others and ourselves, and where false praise is offered up without proper focus on the outcome. Are we just ‘Fixed' or ‘Growth' - one or the other with no movement or recognition of the self-talk required to change? Effort and hard work are also touted as the hallmark of a growth mindset. This in itself will not suffice for improvement, and Live-N-Learn will look at what other traits growth mindset is really looking to establish and how it can be done.
Claire Lavelle, founder and CEO of the Hive of Wellbeing http://www.thehiveofwellbeing.co.uk/about/ will complement Jen’s input. Claire has over 20 years’ experience in Education and she is currently working in a number of local authorities, schools and early years settings throughout Scotland focusing on the wellbeing of staff so that they can feel good to support, teach and lead well. Claire will deliver a bespoke session for probationers in the sector which will assist in developing personal resilience, wellbeing and perspective.
