Friday 11 June 2010 Press Statement: "News of the sudden closure of St Margaret's School, Edinburgh, is sad and distressing. SCIS will do all it can to help re-locate the pupils, wherever possible.  The circumstances at St Margaret's are specific to St Margaret's and we do not envisage these arising elsewhere in the sector.  We are pleased that, despite the economic climate, places at independent schools remain in high demand."

Judith Sischy, Director of SCIS, said, "SCIS welcomes the Scottish Government's Independent School Census which confirms its own figures as at September 2009 and its mid-year report (above). Stability is the key feature - a fall of under 1% in a climate of cuts, falling pupil numbers and personal hardship defies our expectations. We are monitoring trends closely and will continue to do o, offering support wherever possible. The main fall in numbers is at Primary 1 but is still around 1% which is equivalent to 2 or 3 pupils per school. This is off-set by increases elsewhere but the figures are really too small to indicate any firm trends."
