Vacancy Description / Summary

The High School of Glasgow are seeking to employ a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of English from August 2018 to provide Maternity Cover in our highly successful English Department. The Department currently consists of 6 full-time teachers and one part-time English/ Drama teacher. There is also one full-time Drama Teacher. All pupils, in English, follow courses leading to SQA National 5 in 4th Year and Higher in 5th Year. Usually about five to
ten pupils go on to take the Advanced Higher. The English courses at all levels have been constructed by the
Department to give a common purpose and direction, and yet to allow an element of choice of material on the part of individual teachers. Classes from 2nd Year upwards are setted. We embark on National 5 in 3rd Year. The Department has consistently achieved excellent results in external
examinations including 100% pass rate for all of S5 in 2015. The successful applicant will be a committed and enthusiastic teacher of English with high standards of professionalism
and should be willing to make a contribution to the extra-curricular life of the School. The salary for the post will take account of the qualifications and experience of the person appointed and there will be a High School allowance of 6% above the National Scale. The successful applicant may, if desired, participate in the Scottish
The appointment will begin on Thursday 23 August 2018.
Candidates must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) from August 2017. The appointment will be subject to a successful application to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Application forms can be downloaded from the School website: and emailed to
