Vacancy Description / Summary

Kelvinside Academy is an independent, HMC co-educational day school of some 600 pupils aged 3-18 in the west end of Glasgow.

We seek a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher of Mathematics to teach from S1 up to Advanced Higher level.

Mathematics forms part of the Faculty of Maths, Science and Technology. The Faculty team comprises 13 staff and is led by a Head of Faculty and a Deputy.

As a single-site, all-through school emphasis is placed upon achieving a smooth progression from Primary into Secondary. The Senior School Faculties work closely with the Junior School.

The post which is a part-time (0.4FTE), permanent one, would suit either a new or an experienced teacher.

The school aims to bring out the best in every pupil, combining high standards of teaching and a superb extra-curricular programme within an inclusive and caring ethos. Sport, outdoor pursuits, music, drama and art flourish, together with a range of clubs and societies. There is strong participation in the Cadet Forces and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The post is tenable from August 2019. A completed application form, available from the School’s website, and letter of application should be sent to the Rector by noon on Wednesday 27 February 2019.

About the School

From 1 to 18 years, education at Kelvinside Academy is designed to challenge every child to be and do their best in every aspect of life. Excellence in the classroom is non-negotiable, but when educating pupils, teachers won’t stop there.

In a world full of uncertainty and rapid technological advancement, SQA exam grades alone are no longer enough. Intellectual curiosity, a passion for learning, critical thought, resilience and empathy are dispositions required by students to compete in the 21st Century.

Pastoral care is at the heart of a Kelvinside education, where the size of our pupil population allows teachers to know every pupil, ensuring a caring and nurturing learning environment. At Kelvinside Academy, the whole child is the whole point.
