Event Description

This session will provide essential training for Governors in independent schools and will offer and excellent opportunity to network. The session is directed particularly to new Governors and those Governors who are wishing to update their knowledge. 

The day will be led by colleagues from Shepherd+Wedderburn. Malcolm Rust, Partner and Head of the Private Client and Charities teams at Shepperd+Wedderburn will lead the event with a key focus on Good Governance. Malcolm is an accredited specialist through the Law Society of Scotland in the field of Charities law, and with regard to Governance will explore with delegates: 

Fundamental Roles and Responsibilities

  • The role of the Board of Trustees
  • Case studies: fundamental principles of Board life
  • The duties of a Trustee under Scottish Charity Law
  • Common issues with Governing Boards

There will also be input from colleagues from Shepherd+Wedderburn on a range of topics from Immigration to Health & Safety and Financial Governance. 

The role of SCIS

John Edward, Director of SCIS, will consider the role of SCIS and support available to Governors and schools.
