Event Description

Revised Child Protection Guidance - implications for policy and practice

All colleagues with a responsibility for safeguarding are welcome to attend this event.  The session will be led by James Cox.  Prior to his recent retirement, James was the Children and Families Lead at Social Work Scotland and Professional Adviser to the Scottish Government, Child Protection.  In the context of the latter, he had a major input and influence into the revised Guidance and hence is well-informed of this and the SCIS context.  The session will consider:

  • Key changes in the new national guidance and intentions behind these changes
  • Acknowledgement of variables in the years ahead: including new or impending legislation, guidance, and systemic change, potentially including National Care Service
  • Aspirations, opportunities and boundaries of any changes needed to current SCIS Guidance: discussion and recommendations
  • Action points/ next steps/ further consultation needed

Please note the final 20 minutes will be devoted to the residential sector where consideration will be given the status and implications for schools in this context.

**Please note joining instructions will be sent out 24 hours in advance and hence please register by Monday 17 January**
