Vacancy Description / Summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of Physical Education with the ability to coach hockey. Knowledge and experience of SQA National Qualifications would be an advantage.
The successful candidate should have extensive knowledge and expertise in teaching hockey. We run 3-4 teams in every year group and girls are expected to attend lunchtime and after school practices regularly as well as playing Saturday fixtures. We believe that playing for a team is a valuable experience. We start hockey in Junior 5 and play all the way through the school to Sixth Year. We have a number of pupils who are District and International players and we regularly participate in District and National competitions. In addition pupils compete at a National and District level in a wide range of sports where we have an enviable record of achievements. All of our athletes are fully supported to achieve their full potential.
The Department (both Junior and Senior School) presently consists of 9 full time teachers and a number of part time staff who are ably supported by staff throughout the School. We are very fortunate to have first class facilities consisting of a games hall, gym, fitness suite and on site, outdoor pitches consisting of 5 rugby, 2 artificial hockey (one water based, new 2015) and cricket squares. At the Senior School we teach from Primary 7 (Transitus) to Sixth Year. Classes are taught in single sex and co-ed groups depending upon the activity. We also have an input to our Junior School pupils from Kindergarten onwards. The main extra-curricular sports during the Autumn and Spring Terms are rugby for the boys and hockey for the girls. In the Summer Term the girls concentrate on tennis and athletics, with the boys focusing on cricket, athletics and tennis.
