Representing and promoting independent schools

Established in 1978 to represent independent schools in Scotland, the Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS) became a charitable company limited by guarantee in 1990.

The pages in this section of the website explain the role that SCIS fulfils in Scottish education:

  • its objectives
  • the team that contribute to its success
  • what independent education means in practice
  • the support provided to member schools
  • the information service offered to parents, the public and the press
