Event Description

We are delighted to welcome Mike Nicholson from Progressive Masculinity to present the morning session.

This practical and engaging session will focus on promoting positive behaviours and attitudes among male pupils and will provide suggestions for immediate, high-impact strategies in schools.

The agenda will include:

  • What are the prevalent views of masculinity amongst many of our young people?
  • What socio-cultural factors are shaping these views?
  • What evidence-based strategies can we employ to challenge regressive, dominance-based models of masculinity and promote a healthier, more aspirational understanding of what it can mean to 'be a man' in today's world.
  • Topics of developing emotional literacy in boys/young men as well as the impact of pornography on attitudes towards masculinity and relationships.

The afternoon session will focus Self Harm and we are very much looking forward to the session presented by Debbie Spens from the Charlie Waller Trust.  Debbie has a degree in psychology, is a trained special educational needs teacher and has spent over 30 years working in the boarding school environment on their pastoral teams.  She is passionate about educating others around mental health awareness, removing the stigma and spotting the early signs to enable good recovery.
