Event Description
All colleagues who have involvement in risk management or data protection are warmly invited to attend the SCIS Horizon Scanner: Data Protection Law in Independent Schools webinar
The new Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 introduces changes to UK data protection laws, some of which are already in force.
These changes include a new right for individuals to complain directly to organisations about data protection issues and new legal provisions on handling subject access requests.
Our ‘Horizon Scanner’ webinar provides an overview of those changes, and any related updates to the ICO guidance. It will advise on what steps need taken by independent schools in order to comply, and also look at DPCC 2025, the ICO’s action plan which sets out their priorities and changes to expect in the coming year (due to be announced and published at the regulator’s annual conference on 14th October 2025).
There will also be discussion of ICO enforcement actions during the past twelve months to identify key areas where independent schools ought to focus on improving compliance, with an opportunity to ask questions about related data protection compliance issues.
It is aimed at colleagues with a basic understanding of legal requirements relating to data protection and privacy who need to keep updated with legal changes and seek practical guidance on improving organisational compliance at independent schools. It is suitable for all management levels (Bursar, HR and ICT teams, for example) and others tasked with risk management or data
