Event Description

The SCIS Senior Leadership Development Programme is designed to inspire and equip aspiring leaders in Scotland’s independent schools with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for senior roles. It supports the development of self-awareness, resilience and strategic leadership, while building understanding across key areas such as HR, finance, governance and safeguarding. The programme also provides space for reflection, collaboration and engagement with wider national policy and the Scottish education landscape. Full details can be found in the Programme brochure

24 September – Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen
Strengths & Behaviours for Leadership
Participants will complete an online strengths profile in advance, which will underpin the session’s focus on leadership behaviours, decision-making and fostering a positive leadership culture. The course will be introduced by Mrs C Smith, Head of Senior School.

4 November – Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh
Developing Strong Relationships & Moving to Senior Leadership – Dr Jill Berry
Focus on effective leadership, including managing teams, handling conflict and building positive cultures. The session also covers preparation for senior leadership roles, including applications, interviews and transition into post.

14 January – Hutcheson’s Grammar School, Glasgow
Trauma-Informed Practice & Pastoral Leadership
Exploring resilience, wellbeing and effective pastoral leadership in a senior role.

March & May (Dates TBC)
Sessions will include educational leadership and policy, diversity and inclusion, HR and employment law, financial and strategic leadership, and transitioning from middle to senior leadership.

June
Final oral presentations.
