School Description

The Mary Erskine School is part of ESMS, a vibrant, friendly, family of schools, set in the heart of Edinburgh. We are currently a diamond school with a co-educational Junior School and Sixth Form. Students are taught at the Ravelston site in S1 to S5, though there are many opportunities to mix with their peers from Stewart’s Melville College through our wealth of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Our young people find their voices, ignore stereotypes and become confident, secure, ambitious young women. Our academic record is strong but it is the rounded education and the extraordinary opportunities we provide that make our students stand out. Our extensive outdoor learning programme builds resilience and self-belief and our unrivalled range of extra-curricular activities encourages everyone to challenge themselves, discover what they are capable of and excel in ways they never thought possible. Students leave the school with lifelong friendships, ready to take their place in society as strong leaders and role-models for others.

From August 2026, ESMS becomes Erskine Stewart Melville, a fully co-educational school from Nursery to Sixth Form, with the Senior School being based at Queensferry Road and the Junior School at Ravelston.
