Event Description
This session is aimed at professionals in independent schools looking for high-level training on data protection compliance in relation to commercial activities - in particular, fundraising activities, or when providing access to sports facilities or school buildings for events on a commercial basis.
Content
It will provide an up-to-date overview of requirements in the data protection law, including the amendments applicable to independent schools which are charities made by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 which are now in force, permitting those schools to rely on ‘soft opt-in’ when sending direct electronic fundraising or marketing messages. ICO guidance on these changes is due to be updated and that will also be discussed.
Key takeaways
This course is suitable for professionals in the education sector with a working knowledge of legal requirements relating to data protection and privacy who are looking for specialist training in relation to how the law applies to fundraising, marketing and commercial activities, and who need to understand recent changes to the law and guidance.
