Event Description

All colleagues involved in risk management or data protection compliance are warmly invited to attend the annual SCIS Horizon Scanner: Data Protection Law in Independent Schools webinar.

Content

This webinar provides an overview of any legal changes and any related updates to the ICO guidance.

It will include discussion of new guidance from March 2026 on handling data protection complaints submitted to independent schools by individuals who exercise their new legal right from 19th June to make those complaints directly to organisations.  Further important guidance is anticipated during the year on issues such as AI use involving personal data.

During the webinar, as always there will also be discussion of ICO enforcement actions during the past twelve months to identify key areas where independent schools ought to focus on improving compliance, with an opportunity to ask questions about related data protection compliance issues.

Key takeaways

It is aimed at colleagues with a basic understanding of legal requirements relating to data protection and privacy who need to keep updated with legal changes and seek practical guidance on improving organisational compliance at independent schools.

We are delighted to welcome Sean Morris, Legal Manager at Navigator and a dual-qualified solicitor in England & Wales and Scotland, to deliver this session. Sean specialises in employment law and data protection, with extensive experience advising organisations on GDPR compliance, data breaches, and governance, and regularly delivers training to the education sector.
